The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications for the Annual Program Statement (APS) for Fiscal Year 2021. The Public Affairs Section (PAS) is seeking proposals that align with the U.S. Embassy's objectives, including strengthening Serbian-U.S. relations and explaining U.S. culture, society, values, and policies to Serbian audiences.

The second round deadline expired on May 18, 2021, but proposals are reviewed and grants issued on a rolling basis. "It is possible that the Public Affairs Section (PAS) will have no remaining funds after the review panel goes through the proposals received during the First Round," stated PAS.

Projects should generally be completed within six to twelve months or up to eighteen months for larger projects. The priority region is Serbia, with encouragement for activities outside of Belgrade.

PAS emphasizes projects must include an American element, which could involve partnerships between Serbian and American organizations or participation by an American expert. Activities may range from academic competitions to film festivals.

The program themes include fighting brain drain through entrepreneurship and innovation, equal opportunity for people with disabilities, human rights, Serbian-American ties, regional cooperation, and education.

Participants should primarily be citizens or legal residents of Serbia. However, participants from neighboring Western Balkan nations can be included if it aligns with project objectives.

Funding restrictions apply to projects involving partisan political activity or commercial ventures among others. Grants can cover travel costs if essential to the project.

An information session was held on March 31, 2021, providing further details about this funding opportunity. All application materials must be submitted via email by the specified deadlines.

For more information on application procedures and other funding opportunities from PAS, interested parties are directed to visit the U.S. Embassy website.
