South Africa has initiated a safeguard investigation concerning corrosion-resistant steel coil imports. The notification outlines the procedure for interested parties to participate in the investigation process.
"Interested parties must make themselves known within a period of 20 days after the initiation of the investigation," according to the announcement. These parties are required to submit any relevant information or requests for hearings within this timeframe to the Directorate: Trade Remedies I, located at The DTI Campus in Pretoria.
The official notification can be found under reference G/SG/N/6/ZAF/11.
A safeguard investigation aims to assess whether increased imports of a specific product are causing or threatening serious harm to domestic industries. During such investigations, stakeholders including importers and exporters can present evidence and arguments. A World Trade Organization (WTO) member may impose temporary import restrictions if it is determined that increased imports are causing or threatening significant injury.
