The U.S. Liaison Office to Guinea-Bissau has announced the call for applications for the 2026 Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA). This initiative, part of the Fulbright program, is designed to bring international secondary-level teachers to the United States for a six-week professional development experience.

During their time in the U.S., participating teachers will attend academic seminars focused on new teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, content-based instruction, lesson planning, and instructional technology training. These seminars will be held at a host university. Additionally, participants will engage in at least 40 hours of practicum with a U.S. partner teacher in local secondary schools.

Eligible applicants must be current full-time secondary-level teachers in subjects such as English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), math, science, foreign language, social studies, journalism, or communications. Special education teachers in these fields are also eligible. Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have a minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience by the start of the program. Preference is given to those with at least five years of experience.

Additional eligibility requirements include demonstrated oral and written English proficiency and being a citizen and resident of Guinea-Bissau. Candidates should be willing to continue teaching after completing the program and be between 30-50 years old.

Pre-selected candidates must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with all costs covered by the program.

Interested candidates can apply through the website https://fulbright.irex.org until February 28, 2025. The timeline for this initiative includes accepting applications from January 31 to February 28, 2025. Applicants will be notified in August 2025 regarding their status.

The program includes two cohorts: Spring 2026 from January to March and Fall 2026 from September to October.
