KfW IPEX-Bank has joined a consortium of commercial banks and international financial institutions to finance the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm project in Poland. This initiative is backed by Polish sponsor PGE and Danish sponsor Orsted.
As one of the major lenders, KfW IPEX-Bank serves as Mandated Lead Arranger, facilitating substantial exports from Germany. The Baltica 2 project, with a capacity of 1,498 MW, stands as the largest renewable energy endeavor currently underway in the Baltic Sea. It aims to supply electricity to approximately 2.5 million Polish households, playing a key role in Poland's transition to green energy.
The wind farm will utilize Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 turbines and incorporate significant foundation components from German manufacturers Steelwind Nordenham and EEW.
Dr Velibor Marjanovic, member of the Management Board of KfW IPEX-Bank, commented: “Baltica 2 underlines our claim as one of the leading arrangers of offshore wind financings globally and demonstrates our commitment to backing German producers of renewable energy assets. Our prominent role in the Baltica 2 transaction opens the door to new offshore wind financings in Poland and other offshore wind markets.”
