The U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam has announced it will be unable to provide routine in-person consular services from March through May 2025. This temporary suspension is due to a scheduled building upgrade project. During this period, the consulate will remain available for emergency assistance to U.S. citizens and will continue accepting mail-in U.S. passport renewal applications.

The consulate expects to resume limited in-person routine consular services starting June 2025 and plans to share updates on service availability through the Mission Netherlands website, as well as on X and Facebook.

Between March and May 2025, U.S. citizens requiring Passport and Citizenship services will need to visit alternate U.S. embassies or consulates outside of the Netherlands. Those who prefer obtaining passport services at the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam are encouraged to pursue mail-in renewal if eligible or schedule appointments before March 2025 or after May 2025.

Foreign nationals seeking a nonimmigrant visa to the United States during this period must arrange appointments at other U.S. embassies or consulates. It is noted that since May 2024, immigrant visas are processed by the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt, with appointments available via their website.

For assistance, individuals can contact the U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam at +(31)(0)70 310 2209 or ACSAmsterdam@state.gov, and further information is available on their website https://nl.usembassy.gov/. Additionally, general inquiries can be directed to State Department – Consular Affairs at either 888-407-4747 or 202-501-4444.

U.S. citizens are also encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security and operational updates.
