The first round of Ecuadorian national elections is scheduled for Sunday, February 9. A potential second round may take place on Sunday, April 13. U.S. citizens in Ecuador are advised to anticipate a significant police and military presence throughout the country on election day. This presence will be concentrated at polling sites and voting centers, which are typically located in schools.

Demonstrations or crowds may form with little warning. While such events could occur anywhere, areas around government buildings and polling sites might be particularly affected. Travelers may encounter road closures and other traffic disruptions, especially near the National Electoral Commission (CNE) headquarters.

For assistance, U.S. citizens can contact the U.S. Embassy in Quito at +(593)(2) 398-5000 or use the Consular Services Navigator.
