Over the past seven decades, NATO Allies have experienced increased economic stability, security, and peace on an international scale. April 4, 2019, marked the 70th anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty and the establishment of NATO.

The Alliance remains united in its commitment to defending democracy, individual liberty, and the rule of law. It stands firm in its dedication to mutual protection among member nations. According to Article 5 of the treaty, an attack on one Ally is considered an attack on all. This article was first invoked after the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. All NATO Allies responded as if these attacks had taken place within their own borders.

This collective promise enhances safety for both countries and their citizens. Beyond this commitment among members, NATO collaborates with numerous partner countries worldwide to address global challenges such as terrorism, piracy, and Russian influence.

To counteract modern threats effectively, NATO Allies are investing in developing new defense and deterrence capabilities. The organization is adapting to meet contemporary needs while maintaining its foundational strength and unity that has ensured safety for seventy years. Looking forward, NATO pledges to uphold this assurance regardless of emerging threats.
