Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Representative to the United Nations, held a meeting with Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol. The meeting was focused on several key issues, including global leadership and security concerns.

During the discussion, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield acknowledged the Republic of Korea's role in hosting the third Summit for Democracy in March 2024. Both parties expressed their concerns over North Korea's violations of UN Security Council resolutions. They emphasized their commitment to ensuring continued independent and credible reporting on North Korea's weapons proliferation and sanctions evasion activities, especially after Russia vetoed the renewal of the 1718 Panel of Experts mandate on March 28.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also thanked President Yoon for supporting Ukraine amidst ongoing conflicts. The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of trilateral cooperation between the U.S., ROK, and Japan within the UN Security Council on various shared priorities beyond North Korean issues. These include emerging technologies and climate security.

Additionally, they discussed working together on several critical areas such as cybersecurity, climate change, and high-end technology to enhance overall security.
