Cairo will host the second annual Maker Faire on Saturday, March 26, at The GREEK Campus in downtown. This event gathers thousands of enthusiasts from the "Makers" movement, individuals or groups that use new technology to create useful items from unused or discarded materials.

The U.S. Embassy sponsors the event, which FabLab Egypt hosts. It invites talented Makers from Egypt and the region to showcase their creations and discuss how they blend creativity with emerging technologies. Described as “The Greatest Show and Tell on Earth – a showcase of invention and resourcefulness,” the faire will also include talks by international leaders of the Maker movement.

Among the technological innovations featured are a wearable device designed to help blind individuals navigate streets and buildings and a portable solar-powered energy source for mobile devices. Dale Dougherty, who played a pivotal role in launching the first Maker Faire in 2006 near San Francisco, California, will be one of the expert speakers.

This marks the second collaboration between FabLab and the U.S. Embassy to bring Maker Faire to Cairo. Last year's event attracted over 5,000 attendees who viewed nearly 100 inventions. This year, FabLab has expanded its reach beyond Egypt to invite Makers from across the Middle East, making it the largest Maker Faire event in this region.

The Maker Faire will run from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at The GREEK Campus in downtown Cairo. Tickets are available online or at the venue itself.
