The United States is delivering eight F-16 Block 52 aircraft to Cairo West Air Base on July 30 and 31. These aircraft, built in Fort Worth, Texas, will join the Egyptian Air Force's existing fleet of U.S.-made F-16s.
Major General Charles Hooper, the U.S. Embassy Senior Defense Official in Cairo, commented on the delivery: “The F-16s provide a valuable capability that is needed during these times of regional instability. America’s commitment to a strong relationship with Egypt is demonstrated by continued cooperation and capability sharing between our two countries. Extremists threaten regional security and these weapon systems provide a new tool to help Egypt fight terrorism.”
This year, the United States has committed $1.3 billion to enhancing Egypt's security and military capabilities. The delivery of these F-16 Block 52 jets represents a significant step in supporting the longstanding strategic partnership between the two nations.
Furthermore, four additional F-16s are scheduled for delivery this fall. The U.S. will also continue offering support in terms of maintenance and training for Egyptian Air Force pilots and ground crews.
