Chargé d’Affaires Thomas H. Goldberger recently addressed an audience at the Mars Wrigley Confectionary Production Expansion Ceremony in Egypt. During his remarks, he highlighted the significant role that Mars, a major American confectionary company, has played in Egypt's economy over the past two decades.

Goldberger emphasized the benefits that American companies bring to foreign economies when they invest. He stated, "Mars’ experience in Egypt shows what American companies bring with them when they invest in an economy: not only the most sophisticated technologies in the world but the most advanced and socially responsible management and business practices."

The collaboration between Mars and Egypt was described as a model of U.S.-Egyptian partnership that serves both nations' interests. Goldberger noted, "America’s and Egypt’s commercial and economic ties are an integral part of our strategic partnership; they complement and support our strong security and political cooperation."

He also pointed out that Mars' decision to expand operations is indicative of growing momentum within Egypt's economy. This expansion reflects renewed investor confidence, supported by favorable projections from institutions like the World Bank. "American companies clearly want to be part of the exciting new opportunities in Egypt," Goldberger remarked.

Furthermore, Goldberger praised Egyptian President al-Sisi's administration for implementing pro-business policies that have encouraged private sector growth. The Embassy's close collaboration with Egyptian government agencies aims to bolster bilateral trade and create job opportunities.

Through partnerships facilitated by USAID, efforts are underway to train Egyptian youth and align educational systems with market needs. Goldberger concluded his speech by expressing pride in these initiatives and wishing continued success for Mars in its endeavors within Egypt.
