Administrator Mark Green recently visited Egypt, engaging with various stakeholders to discuss key issues and initiatives supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). His visit included meetings with partners from civil society, entrepreneurs, religious community representatives, and leaders of the Egyptian government.
During his visit, Administrator Green first met with USAID implementing partners representing civil society. They discussed challenges and opportunities facing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Egypt and the ongoing process of revising the country's NGO law.
At Flat6Labs, Administrator Green engaged with young entrepreneurs to understand how USAID and the Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund are facilitating investments in early-stage companies with high growth potential. This initiative aims to bolster Egypt's private sector development.
Green also visited significant cultural sites such as Aslam al-Silahdar Mosque. There, he observed USAID's collaboration with the Agha Khan Foundation in preserving historic and religious cultural sites to foster economic growth and employment. At the Adly Street Synagogue, he learned about Drop of Milk NGO's efforts to promote interfaith understanding and preserve cultural heritage.
A meeting with Dr. Sahar Nasr, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, focused on collaboration areas including women's economic empowerment, youth participation, private sector development, interfaith engagement, community involvement, and the role of NGOs in Egypt.
Concluding his visit, Administrator Green met Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly. He affirmed 40 years of cooperation between USAID and Egypt while acknowledging President el-Sisi's leadership in promoting religious pluralism. Discussions also covered ways to advance programs of mutual interest.
