Jordan has initiated a safeguard investigation concerning the import of safety and protective footwear. The process is intended to assess whether increased imports are causing or threatening to cause significant harm to local industries.

The contact for this investigation is Eng. Maysoon Abu Baker, Director of the National Production Protection Directorate (NPPD). For inquiries, interested parties can reach out via telephone at +962 6 5629030 ext. (650), (101) or email Maysoon.AbuBaker@MIT.GOV.JO and Tariq.Ahmed@mit.Gov.Jo.

Importers, exporters, and other stakeholders have specific deadlines to participate in the investigation. They must identify themselves as interested parties by December 22, 2024, and submit any written statements or information by January 14, 2025.

A safeguard investigation examines whether increased imports of a product are causing or threatening serious injury to domestic industries. During such an investigation, various parties can present evidence and views and respond to others' presentations. If it is determined that imports are indeed causing harm, a World Trade Organization member may take temporary measures to restrict these imports.
