Siemens and Compass Datacenters have entered into a multi-year agreement to develop custom electrical solutions, aimed at supporting the rapid scaling of data center construction. The partnership focuses on creating efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective data centers through modular buildings and a standard kit of parts.
Brian Dula, Region CEO of the Electrification and Automation business at Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA, emphasized the importance of these developments in light of growing demands from technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud services. "Tools like artificial intelligence and cloud services provide great opportunities as well as some challenges in terms of the scale of growth," he stated. "At Siemens we are 'productizing' the critical components necessary so companies like Compass can build new data centers faster while reducing on-site work and costs. It is the prefabrication, modular, and fungible design of our technology that provides the bedrock needed to meet the demand the industry is calling for."
Compass Datacenters specializes in building campuses for large-scale hyperscalers globally. Their approach heavily relies on off-site manufacturing and modular construction methods, enabling them to deliver extensive data centers in approximately nine months.
Jared Day, President and Chief Financial Officer at Compass Datacenters, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: "This solution is a powerful example of what this partnership will deliver to Compass customers in the years to come," he said. "The 8DJH 36 solution delivers major efficiency and sustainability advantages that align with Compass’ strategic anchors and accelerates our timeline for projects."
The first implementation of this solution will take place at Compass's upcoming data center campus on the former Sears headquarters site near Chicago. This project is expected to commence in late 2025. Siemens will provide factory-certified service personnel for commissioning and installation support to ensure smooth integration across all projects.
