The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have announced that applications are now open for their annual colloquium, designed for intellectual property (IP) teachers and researchers. This two-week program offers participants an opportunity to engage with emerging IP issues being debated internationally, exchange experiences, and explore new trends in IP teaching and research.
Participants will gain insights from leading experts in academia, the private sector, as well as officials from WIPO and WTO. The colloquium will cover various topics such as "intellectual property policy and economic development," "artificial intelligence and creativity," "interface between patents and health innovations," "securing digital frontiers: IP enforcement in e-commerce and digital trade," "climate adaptation innovation," "mapping agri-food systems," and "knowledge transfer — from research to market."
The program is open to candidates who possess advanced knowledge of IP. Eligible applicants include university teachers, researchers, lawyers, and economists specializing in IP from developing economies and least developed countries (LDCs). Applicants must have roles related to the development or implementation of national IP policies, a proven record in IP research and publishing, an advanced degree with at least five years of teaching experience in a relevant field, not have attended any of the last five editions of the colloquium held in Geneva, demonstrate excellent English proficiency, and submit a one-page abstract outlining their presentation topic.
Successful applicants are required to prepare a paper on their chosen topic for publication as part of the WIPO-WTO Colloquium Papers following their participation.
