ANZ has announced a strategic restructuring to combine its Digital Division, including ANZx, with its Australian retail business. Maile Carnegie will lead the new structure as Group Executive Australian Retail, reporting directly to CEO Shayne Elliott.
In a related move, ANZ plans to create a separate division for its commercial businesses in Australia to better position them for growth opportunities. "We recognised retail banking was changing fast and that we needed to use the world’s best digital technology," said Mr. Elliott.
The bank's first customer proposition under this new alignment, ANZ Plus, is set to launch soon. Mr. Elliott described it as "a digital-led retail banking proposition centered on the financial wellbeing of our customers."
Maile Carnegie's leadership is seen as pivotal due to her extensive experience in consumer and digital businesses. "She has brought a different perspective since joining our Executive Committee in 2016," Mr. Elliott stated.
This integration aligns with strong performances from ANZ’s Institutional and New Zealand divisions, allowing increased focus on their Commercial Business in Australia. "Improving the visibility, focus and accountability of this division will benefit all our customers," added Mr. Elliott.
Mark Hand, outgoing Group Executive Australia Retail & Commercial, will assist with establishing the new Commercial Division before his departure later this year. "Mark Hand has given tremendous service to ANZ over many decades," said Mr. Elliott.
Reflecting on his time at ANZ, Mark Hand remarked: “I’m incredibly proud to have been part of ANZ’s history over the past 30 years.”
