The Malawi Contingent Emergency Response Project (CERP) is an initiative under the World Bank's Investment Project Financing (IPF). It allows for emergency response expenditures to be financed using funds repurposed through the Rapid Response Option (RRO). The CERP is part of the World Bank’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Toolkit (CPRT), providing the Government of Malawi with rapid access to financing during eligible crises or emergencies.

Prepared in advance, the CERP aims to support Malawi's emergency response needs. The project spans six years and does not have committed funding at its approval stage. Activation can occur multiple times within this period, contingent on eligible emergencies and available funds. Resources from Malawi’s active operations portfolio will be redirected through CERP for emergency purposes.

The Environmental and Social compliance documents related to CERP include the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS), Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP), and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
