A new trade policy course for government officials from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) is currently underway at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The training includes lectures, interactive sessions, and practical exercises that cover the main WTO agreements with a focus on development issues. It aims to help LDCs implement WTO decisions to boost their trade activities.

Participants are engaging in weekly quizzes, attending meetings of WTO bodies, and participating in a roundtable discussion focused on LDCs' priorities and future work at the WTO.

Bridget Chilala, Director of the WTO's Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation, spoke at the opening session. She emphasized the WTO's commitment to enhancing LDCs' trade capacity and integrating them into the multilateral trading system. "LDCs remain a priority for the WTO as we work to enhance their trade capacities and promote their inclusion in the multilateral trading framework. This introductory course directly addresses the persistent and growing demand for trade-related training and capacity building," she stated.
