The advanced trade policy course for Spanish-speaking officials, organized by the World Trade Organization (WTO), concluded in Geneva on July 26, 2024. Participants engaged in workshops, case studies, and roundtable discussions to learn about current trade issues and WTO discussions, enhancing their expertise in applying trade agreements. The course also provided opportunities to interact with Geneva-based WTO member representatives, experts from other international organizations, and representatives from the WTO Secretariat.
At the closing session of the training program, Dr. Sofia Boza Martínez, Chile's WTO Ambassador and patroness of the course, praised participants for their dedication and hard work. She highlighted that the course offered a unique opportunity to enhance participants' ability to address current challenges related to multilateral trade policy and emphasized the crucial role that multilateralism plays in strengthening global governance.
Stefania Bernabé from the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation noted that the course was highly interactive due to participants' active engagement.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Ana Román from the Dominican Republic and Ingrid Jauregui from Peru expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the policy course. They underscored how the training helped boost their confidence and prepared them to face challenges in their respective professional positions. Juan Regino Oke Okomo from Equatorial Guinea emphasized that the trade negotiation simulation sessions closely resembled real negotiations.
