The World Trade Organization (WTO) has released the latest edition of its World Tariff Profiles, providing comprehensive data on tariffs imposed by member economies. The publication includes summary tables that list average "bound" or maximum tariffs and actual applied tariffs for both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.

Each economy's one-page profile offers detailed information on tariffs by product groups based on the 2023 Multilateral Trade Negotiations (MTN) Categories, a classification system used by the WTO for trade statistics and policy analysis. Additionally, these profiles indicate the tariffs imposed on an economy's exports by its main trading partners.

Complementing the tariff data are statistics on non-tariff measures such as anti-dumping measures, countervailing measures, and safeguards, categorized by economy and product group.

This year's edition features a special focus on tariffs related to critical minerals essential for the electric vehicle (EV) value chain. Specifically, it examines tariffs levied on cobalt, graphite, and lithium—key materials in EV battery production and other renewable energy technologies. The analysis reveals that raw materials generally face lower tariffs than processed materials, which are lower than those on parts and components; final goods often attract the highest tariffs. This tariff escalation has been identified as a barrier preventing many developing economies from advancing into higher-value processed products.

The publication is available online with French and Spanish editions expected to be downloadable by late August. Printed copies will be available in September. The new data can also be accessed through the WTO STATS portal.
