Anil Goel joins Nielsen as chief engineering officer

Anil Goel has been appointed to lead the technology and engineering teams at Nielsen, with a particular focus on the adoption of automation and artificial intelligence. Operating from Bengaluru, India, Goel will report directly to Karthik Rao, the company's chief executive.

In his role as Global Chief Engineering Officer, Goel will collaborate with multiple teams to promote the adoption of advanced technology and product innovations. He expressed his enthusiasm about this new role in a statement released on March 18. "I'm thrilled to lead the innovation and adoption of advanced technologies as Nielsen's Chief Engineering Officer. The adoption of advanced technology is a critical component for Nielsen to become the world leader in measurement and currency for streaming, and I'm honored to lead us into the future," said Goel.

Goel brings with him an impressive academic background. He holds a Bachelor of Technology with Honors from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, specializing in electrical and electronics. Furthermore, he possesses a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the City University of Seattle.

His professional experience spans two decades in technology and team leadership roles. This dates back to his tenure at RealNetworks where he served as General Manager (GM) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2000. His LinkedIn profile reveals that he spent three years at Amazon as Director of Engineering and CTO of Customer Returns & Reverse Logistics. Most recently, Goel held positions as President of Technology and Group CTO at Byju’s Group.

Nielsen is widely recognized for its ratings and audience measurement business but also offers services in media planning, content metadata, and marketing optimization. The company operates globally with offices across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa according to its website.

Rao shared his thoughts on Goel's appointment during the announcement on March 18. "The measurement industry is evolving rapidly, and as we look to grow in streaming and lead the advance of Convergent TV as the currency in media measurement, we must strengthen our technology roadmap to align with our vision. Anil has the vision and experience to lead Nielsen's technology innovation to power a better media future for all people," said Rao.
