Louise Gregory, as the newly appointed chief development officer, will collaborate with Rev. Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young, dean of Grace Cathedral, and the board of trustees to assist the Cathedral and its teams in achieving their budgetary needs and objectives. Grace Cathedral, which has served as a place for prayer and connection for 175 years, is the third largest Episcopal cathedral in the United States.
According to a news release dated January 23 announcing her appointment, Gregory will head a team focusing on annual and planned giving, major gifts, and the cathedral’s Carnivale gala. A certified fundraising executive (CFE) who has resided in San Francisco for over three decades, Gregory brings with her experience from major cultural organizations where she held executive and leadership roles. These organizations include University of California Berkeley Library, the Berkeley Art Museum, Pacific Film Archive, the California Academy of Sciences, and the Exploratorium.
"I am very excited to assume the role of chief philanthropy officer for Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. It is an honor to lead fundraising for this historic sacred space. I look forward to getting to know the staff, congregation and supporters who will partner with me in achieving wonderful goals," said Gregory regarding her new role at Grace Cathedral.
The cathedral serves as a venue where individuals can attend services throughout the week or explore through docent- or self-guided tours. According to its website, it also houses two Chartres-style labyrinths. The gothic cathedral originated from Little Grace Chapel built in 1849 by Rev. John Ver Mehr. Construction of today's cathedral began in 1927 and was consecrated in 1964; a labyrinth was added in 1991.
"We are delighted to welcome Louise to Grace Cathedral as our new Chief Development Officer. Louise is a seasoned professional who has led successful campaigns with several organizations. She is known for her warm relationships with colleagues and donors. I am confident that she will be a wonderful partner for me and the other Trustees who do so much to raise the funds that make it possible for Grace Cathedral to advance our mission of reimagining church with courage, joy, and wonder," Young said.
