Rhonda Hammond, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience, including a stint as president of the Tallahassee chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Florida in 2019, is recognized as 'the voice of the profession."

Hammond is set to be the third consecutive woman to hold the position of president for the Florida chapter of AIA and the sixth within the past decade. This was revealed in a news release dated December 30, which announced her elevation to this prestigious role.

According to AIA Florida Executive Vice President/CEO Becky Magdaleno, CAE, "We are excited to bring Rhonda Hammond's vision of why architecture matters to membership and the community at large in the coming year. Rhonda will bring a voice not only to the value of architecture in our communities but also demonstrate why architects are resolute leaders and advocates." This statement was part of the news release that confirmed Hammond’s appointment as president for 2024.

In 2000, Hammond co-founded Hammond Design Group, LLC Architects. The company is a comprehensive design firm with an emphasis on inclusive and harmonious processes. According to its website, their mission is ultimately about leaving a lasting legacy of design excellence. They offer landscape architecture services, architectural services, interior design, and planning for various clients. The firm concentrates on creating landscapes that blend with the natural beauty of their surroundings and view outdoor spaces as canvases for artistic expression.

In her own words from the December 30 news release, Hammond stated: "I believe there is no more honorable profession than that of an architect." She continued by saying: "The privilege of designing spaces that shape the character of our communities also comes with much responsibility. As trained critical thinkers, this makes us (architects) uniquely qualified to be the problem solvers of our time."

Hammond holds degrees from both Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) School of Architecture and Engineering Technology, and the University of Florida, where she earned a Master of Sustainable Design. She has also served as an associate professor of architecture at FAMU, as revealed in the news release announcing her selection as 2024 president of AIA Florida.
