Zayo Group Holdings Inc. has unveiled a faster, more direct route connecting Manchester to New York to help limit the backhaul caused in global internet hubs across London and Paris.

“Cultivating an enhanced performance for our customers is at the forefront of Zayo's mission,” Yannick Leboyer, Europe CEO at Zayo, said in a recent Business Wire press release. “The new subsea route is Zayo’s latest step towards providing fast, reliable infrastructure to connect global Internet hubs both within Europe and to the U.S. With the fastest transatlantic connection from Manchester, Zayo is well-positioned to handle the increasing capacity demands between these hubs, fueling business innovation and digital transformation for our customers.”

The global communications infrastructure provider confirmed the route, which is expected to serve as a direct subsea cable to limit the backhaul accumulation to global internet based in London and Paris and improve user experiences. The investment will connect Zayo’s IP network between North America and Continental Europe.

“Offering immediate access to New York, the new subsea cable route provides customers with added diversity and resiliency,” the release said. “As a result, customers in the North of England and across Europe receive faster and more efficient connections to North America.”

The new path was created to fulfill the needs of the European communications infrastructure landscape. It is expected to attract new start-ups in Manchester, reduce latency for customers in the Netherlands as an alternative path for all packet traffic in Amsterdam, and strengthen the UK's Internet backbone.

“By upgrading the Manchester Internet gateway and leveraging capacity from Zayo’s huge Zeus subsea cable, we’ve added a direct route to Amsterdam,” the company said in the release. “This gives our customers three Internet routes; from Manchester to the US, Dublin and The Netherlands. This complements the three routes we also have to London.”

The addition forms part of Zayo’s annual goal to expand its presence across Europe as well as leverage its capacity and routes. Other investments made by the company include its European fiber platform, intended to leverage key connectivity between Paris and Marseille, Amsterdam and Frankfurt and Zeus, known as a protected connection between the UK and Continental Europe.
