GrafTech International Ltd. confirmed plans to immediately resume operations at its Monterrey, Mexico-based facility following the conditional lifting of the temporary suspension notice filed against the company, a press release reported.

"We are pleased to have received an order that allows for the immediate restart of our operations in Mexico,” said Marcel Kessler, CEO and president. "We remain committed to being a good corporate citizen and positively supporting the communities in which we operate, and we look forward to expanding our engagement with the Monterrey community for many years to come. I would like to thank the entire GrafTech team, particularly all our employees in Monterrey, for their efforts to address this situation and the continued focus on supporting our customers and moving our business ahead."

Issued on Sept. 15, the suspension notice was lifted on Nov. 17 by the State Attorney’s Office for the Secretary of Environment of the State of Nuevo León, Mexico following the completion of a required series of environmental impact studies and other activities by the state attorney, as detailed on the company’s Current Report on Form 8-K.

GrafTech has agreed to provide an update of its projections for 2023 on its financial report for the fourth quarter of 2022, considering the potential delays caused by the suspension notice.

For this quarter alone, the company estimates a delay of production for approximately 10,000 metric tons to 12,000 MT.

The facility was first established in 1959, and has expanded overtime, now counting with the support of more than 550 employees and an annual capacity of 60,000 MT, contributing 30% of GrafTech’s total annual production capacity, excluding its Pennsylvania-based operations.
