Ambu, based in Seattle, recently hosted the grand opening of its new manufacturing plant, based in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico on Tuesday, according to a press release.

Spanning 323,000 square feet, the new venture is the largest plant to be constructed by the company.

“The opening of our new manufacturing site in Mexico is a major milestone for Ambu. Delivering high-quality, innovative products to our customers is our No. 1 priority, and it has been a key focus area during COVID-19 and global supply chain disruptions,” Ambu A/S CEO Britt Meelby Jensen said. “Our investment in the new Mexican plant is a strategic decision to secure future production capacity, which will increase our flexibility and proximity to customers in North America and, by that, secure a reliable supply of products.”

The new establishment has the manufacturing capacity to help the company overcome the delays it experienced during the recent period of instability in the global supply chain, and to prepare for its future period of production.

“Securing a growing manufacturing capacity is imperative following a period of instability in the global supply chain,” a recent press release states. “The new factory is a strategic step to become closer to the North American market by having a more sustainable and flexible approach to supply chain constraints, allowing for cost-effective transportation and an improved supply of products to customers.”

Established less than two years ago, the Mexico-based facility is expected to create 2,000-3,000 new job opportunities as it recruits employees over the next few years.

“We have built this factory in record time. It is the culmination of dedication, determination and focus of our colleagues and external partners to strengthen our manufacturing footprint. Together with our existing factories in China, Malaysia and the U.S., our new Mexico-based plant sets Ambu up for future growth,” Henrik Ankjær, executive vice president of global operations at Ambu, said.

The launches add on to a catalog of facilities based in China, Malaysia and the U.S., bringing the company’s total production space to more than 1 million square feet.

“Demand for single-use endoscopes continues to grow in the U.S., and with the Mexico plant, we will be able to maintain a strengthened supply of medical devices, which will ultimately benefit our customers and their patients – for years to come,” Ambu USA President Steven Block said.
