Molex, based in Illinois, has confirmed plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Hanoi, Vietnam with a new manufacturing plant spanning 16,000 square meters as it pursues long-term growth in the global electronics industry, a press release reported.

"Molex has operated in Vietnam for 15 years and this expansion represents our long-term commitment to the country and the community," CEO of Molex, Joe Nelligan, said. "Expanding our manufacturing footprint in Hanoi gives us added capability and capacity in the Asia Pacific region as we plan to grow with our customers and create more opportunities for our skilled workforce."

Initially launching its operations in Vietnam in 2007, Molex's new venture in the region is expected to create more than 200 new, high-tech manufacturing job opportunities in the area.

The expansion will help fulfill accelerating demand for products and applications related to smartphones, TVs, home appliances, test equipment and medical devices.

“The fully integrated connector manufacturing facility will feature advanced robotics, high-speed injection molding, stamping, plating and automated assembly processes along with tooling fabrication and reliability lab testing capabilities,” a recent press release explains.

The launch will feature an on-site solar installation intended to support the site’s energy demands and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
