Almost as soon as COVID-19 lockdowns were lifted in China June 1, they are already coming back.
Shanghai and Beijing are experiencing lockdowns and mass testing once again, stoking fears that the Chinese cities may never move out of a limbo state between being open and completely shut down, according to Reuters.
"#Covid lockdowns are back in #China already?" U.S. Global Investors tweeted. "On Thursday, parts of Shanghai resumed lockdowns, reports @Reuters – a red flag for the global economy."
Shanghai implemented new lockdown restrictions in parts of the large city, and has required mass testing for millions of people, Reuters reported. Beijing closed some entertainment venues.
The news of the new restrictions caused Chinese stocks to dip and once again raised fears about the stability of the global supply chain, Reuters reported.
In Shanghai, officials traced three infections to a popular beauty salon, the Red Rose, that reopened June 1 along with much of the city's establishments, according to Reuters.
The salon served 502 customers from 15 of Shanghai's 16 districts over the past eight days, according to a local media outlet, The Paper, Reuters reported.
