PPG has opened a new architectural paint and coatings color automation laboratory in Milan, Italy, according to a press release.

“The investment in our Milan facility demonstrates our long-term commitment to enhance our research capabilities to better serve our customers,” Global Color director, Architectural Coatings, Parag Akre, said in a release. “It makes the site a true center of excellence for paint color and gives an increased opportunity for collaboration with our research colleagues at the Milan site as One PPG.”

According to the press release, the new facility, worth $2.1 million, is intended to accelerate the speed of paint color formula creations, holding a capacity to provide 100,000 paint color matches per year, providing color formulas for new and existing reformulated colors.

“The new paint color automation laboratory will further strengthen our leadership in color and reflects our goal of providing innovative solutions to address our customers’ needs," PPG color application engineering manager, Milan, Rita Di Leo, said in the release. “It allows an increased number of products, improved paint color accuracy and faster time to market for new color collections.”

The Milan facility will serve as a hub in the region for PPG product development, specializing in paints, coatings, architectural, packaging and industrial markets, including automotive refinish paints and coatings, and a new research and development related to the technology.
