As the ongoing war in Ukraine continues to unravel, the Biden administration has imposed a ban on Russian oil, and Canadian leaders are asking him to reconsider the Keystone pipeline.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said on Twitter, "Alberta would be delighted to welcome such a visit from President Joe Biden. We could discuss how to ship nearly one million barrels of day of responsibly produced energy every day from the USA’s closest friend and ally! All it would take is his approval for Keystone XL. Easy."

Kenney had previously said on Twitter, "I am going to Houston to promote Alberta energy at the CERAWeek conference. We will be meeting with decision-makers to secure access to markets, attract job-creating investment to our province, and argue for Canadian energy to displace Russian conflict oil."

Sonya Savage, Alberta's minister of energy, responded to an Elon Musk tweet stating that the United States would need to ramp up its oil production. Savage said on Twitter, "Agreed. And it should come from Alberta, home of the third-largest oil reserves. Alberta is the answer to U.S. energy security. Real emissions reductions, reliable, right next door."

President Joe Biden said on March 8 that the U.S. would ban Russian oil and gas due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, according to the Globe Banner.

Biden said on Twitter, "Today, I'm announcing that the United States is targeting a main artery of Russia's economy. We are banning all imports of Russian oil and gas."

The Pipeline & Gas Journal reported that Biden said, "The decision today is not without costs here at home. Putin's war is already hurting American families at the gas pump... I'm going to do everything I can to minimize Putin's price hikes here at home."

Gas prices in the U.S. have increased 40% since last year, according to the Globe Banner.

USA Today reported that the Biden administration decided to void the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline due to environmental concerns, despite the fact that it would move 35 million gallons of crude oil daily.

American gas prices are at an all-time record, surpassing a 2008 milestone of $4.11 per gallon, according to WKBN. The average price for gas is $4.17 per gallon as of Tuesday.

The Biden administration is seeking to find relief and has begun negotiations with Venezuela to ramp up their oil production in exchange for easing economic sanctions. This led to bipartisan criticism, Newsweek said.

Chevron is the only American oil organization that has operations in Venezuela, according to Reuters.
