Orion will begin making commercial sales this week with its new carbon black production line, based at its facility in Italy.

“The new line offers customers seeking long-term solutions a unique strategic opportunity to align with a dependable plant that has been operating for more than 60 years in Europe,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said.

Located in the northern city of Ravenna, the new 25-kiloton line is set to produce specialty and technical rubber carbon blacks, a recent press release stated.

Using the commissioned reactor, serving as the first of its kind in the European Union in over four decades, the company hopes to better serve its specialty and technical rubber customers.

Seventy percent of the electricity serves approximately 30,000 households nationwide. The company serves as an electricity net exporter across Europe and worldwide. The specialty chemical company plans to make additional investments to further expand the capacities of the establishment, such as a new co-generation facility. The heat converter would have the capacity to reach 120 MWh of electricity per year.
