Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI), a Boston-based company, recently announced the promotion of two casualty leaders.
The organization named Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite, head of casualty, and James Emson, head of technical casualty in the United Kingdom, according to a Feb. 16 press release.
Alder-Smurthwaite will oversee underwriting of all technical and general aspects of BHSI in the UK, the release stated.
“Caroline and James are committed to delivering on BHSI’s core values and our commitment to providing casualty solutions that are foundational to long-term partnerships with customers,” BSI Country Manager for the UK, Vanessa Maxwell, said in the release. “In their new roles, their customer-focus and leadership will further elevate our ability to serve customers and brokers seeking solutions across the spectrum of casualty risks.”
With over two decades of insurance industry experience, Alder-Smurthwaite joined BHSI in 2021, according to the release. Before that, she served as a London corporate casualty and international casualty manager for another global insurer.
Emson, who has 15 years of experience in the insurance business, began his career at BHSI in 2018 as senior casualty underwriter, the release stated.
