On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is off to a strong start at the South Korean site it opened in November as expansion continues there, a news release said.

Families and shoppers are already targeting the 3,400-square-foot restaurant, which can be located on the fourth floor inside the AK Plaza Mall, 512-3 Iljik-dong Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do, On the Border said in the release.

“Since opening, the Gwangmyeong AK Plaza has proven to be the perfect location,” Suzy Park, CEO of franchise partner JRW Inc., said in the release. “The menu and restaurant design (are) popular among the 400,000 residents living within 5 kilometers of the commercial district. We have a healthy flow of families and individual shoppers who enjoy the food and atmosphere that fits their lifestyle.”

Texas-based On The Border has 17 franchise locations in South Korea, where opportunities continue to thrive for future partners, the release said.

“We are looking for great franchise partners to expand our international presence in additional countries,” Chief Real Estate Officer at On The Border Mike Wood said in the release. "We have spent 15 years in Southeast Asia establishing ourselves as a successful international brand that offers franchisees multiple operational verticals that fit the changing operational environments across the world."

On The Border has developed three lines of businesses active in the Asian country, which are a Corporate Franchise Agreement, Master Franchise Agreement and a Licensing Agreement, the release said.

Since first opening its doors in 1982, On The Border has become the largest Mexican restaurant in the casual dining sector. The eatery is notorious for margaritas, salsa that's made in-house and mesquite-grilled fajitas.

"For nearly 40 years, we've cultivated a delicious menu featuring the bold flavors of Texas and Mexico," On The Border's website said. "From using mesquite-wood grills to sear special marinades into our fajitas to crafting margaritas, chips, salsa, guacamole and tortillas by hand daily, we take pride in serving authentic border-style meals in generous portions."
