Smith 'thrilled to begin this new chapter' as Atlanta-based Crawford's new Canadian president

Crawford & Company, the world's largest independent claims management company, recently announced that Greg Smith has been promoted president of Canadian operations effective Jan. 1, 2022, a news release said.

“Greg has been an integral member of the Crawford family since starting his career here over 25 years ago,” Pat Van Bakel, president, Loss Adjusting North America and board chairman, said. “This promotion is part of our commitment to developing talent internally and ensuring a seamless transition for our customers and employees. We couldn’t think of a better fit for this role with Greg’s deep knowledge of our operations, close relationships with our employees and customers across Canada, and passion for Crawford’s mission.”

Smith is set to lead all executives in the country for Crawford. “I am thrilled to begin this new chapter within Crawford and continue shaping the company’s ongoing dedication to putting people first while delivering the highest quality service and innovation for our customers across Canada,” Smith said.

The tasks appointed to the executive include loss adjusting, third-party administration, contractor connection and platform solutions, the release said.

Smith previously worked as a chief operating officer and chief client officer. He is the vice president of the Professionals’ Division on the Governing Council at The Insurance Institute of Ontario. In addition, Smith remains active in several other insurance industry organizations. 

For academic accomplishments, he acquired a master's in business administration from Ivey Business School  and a bachelor's in business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University, both in Ontario. Attending the Insurance Institute of Canada, he obtained a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional designation. He also earned a Canadian Risk Management designation from the Global Risk Management Institute.
