GlowTouch, a business process outsourcing (BPO) company with headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, recently opened a location in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The global company plans to develop even further into Latin America, GlowTouch said in a recent news release.

"We are excited to plant roots in the Dominican Republic and to usher in the next wave of growth for the company," GlowTouch President and Founder Vidya Ravichandran said in the release. "The nearshore environment is a key element within our industry. Clients see the Caribbean and Latin America as a business-friendly region that is easily accessible and provides a labor force that has a great affinity for American culture."

Opening shop in Santo Domingo will diversify GlowTouch’s geographic offerings while providing additional options for multilingual and multichannel customer care, technical support and sales services, according to the release. The Dominican Republic’s proximity to the United States makes for ease of travel between the two countries and further expansion is planned.

Launched in 2002 with a small group of workers, GlowTouch is now a global company that employs more than 2,300 people, with operations in Louisville and Miami in the U.S. and offshore locations in Mangalore, Bangalore and Mysore in India, the news release said.

GlowTouch's Santo Domingo operation employs 160 employees and that number is expected to surpass 300 within the next year, the company said.

"The island nation has a history within the BPO industry due to its political stability, bilingual workforce and location that lines up with the U.S. workday," the company said.

The announced expansion tops off a year of continuous growth for GlowTouch, despite the pandemic that has hit other industries so hard.

"Due to the pandemic, restrictions on movement were implemented, people increasingly worked and shopped online, and many of our clients saw activity spike significantly," Ravichandran said in the release. "The increased activity reinforced the value of high touch customer care, and establishing a presence in Latin America gives us one more option to offer clients."
