DoorDash is planning the company's first expansion into Asia, the fourth country the company operates in overall, by making its operation available in Sendai, Japan.

According to a press release from DoorDash, the company commands more than 50% of the food delivery services here in the U.S., and are hoping to capitalize on another major economy.

"Congratulations to the team for this amazing milestone, and I'm excited for the opportunity to service the Japanese market," Co-Founder and CTO of DoorDash Andy Fang said in the release.

Japan now has hundreds of restaurants available, and DoorDash hopes to acquire more as the company grows in the market.

According to Bloomberg, DoorDash currently holds 56% market share in the U.S. food delivery space.

Other countries that DoorDash operates in include the U.S., Canada and Australia, the DoorDash release said.
