The U.S. Department of State has renewed its Travel Advisory for Cabo Verde as of December 15, 2025. The advisory level and risk indicators remain unchanged from previous updates, but the summary has been revised.

According to the advisory, travelers are advised to "exercise normal precautions in Cabo Verde." However, it notes that increased caution should be used in Praia due to crime. The advisory states: "Exercise Increased Caution in Praia due to crime."

The Department explains that there is a higher risk of crime in Praia, including petty crimes such as pickpocketing or purse snatching and violent crimes like mugging, armed robbery, or assault.

Travelers are encouraged to review information on crime abroad and guidance for victims of crime. Recommendations include not physically resisting robbery attempts, using caution when walking or driving at night, being aware of surroundings, avoiding displays of wealth such as expensive watches or jewelry, not answering doors unless the visitor is known, being extra vigilant at banks or ATMs, enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for important updates from the U.S. embassy or consulate—which can help authorities contact travelers or their emergency contacts if needed—reviewing the Country Security Report for Cabo Verde, visiting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for updated travel health information on Cabo Verde, and consulting an international travel checklist before departure.

The Department also recommends purchasing travel insurance before traveling and checking with providers about evacuation assistance, medical coverage, and trip cancellation options.

"Exercise normal precautions in Cabo Verde," states the advisory. "Exercise Increased Caution in Praia due to crime."

No changes have been made to the overall advisory level since its last update.
