The United States and Peru have maintained a partnership for nearly two centuries, collaborating on issues related to security and economic development. This cooperation includes joint operations, bilateral engagements, and various capacity-building initiatives.

Recently, at the request of Peruvian President José Jerí, a U.S. interagency delegation visited Lima for a week of consultative meetings with officials from Peru’s executive branch as well as the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense. The six-member delegation is led by José A. Perez, Operations Director at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Members also bring expertise from agencies such as the FBI, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and state police programs in the United States.

Their visit is primarily sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).

According to an official statement: “This high-level visit is advisory in nature and supplements the daily cooperation that takes place between our Embassy’s interagency law enforcement team and Peruvian authorities.  This effort reflects the longstanding security partnership between our two countries.”

The delegation’s trip serves as an example of ongoing collaboration between both nations in areas related to law enforcement and security.
