Emergency United States passports are available in La Paz for applicants who need to travel urgently and cannot wait for a regular passport. These emergency passports are valid for one year or less. Travelers should be aware that while these documents are accepted for re-entry into the United States, some other countries may not accept them.

Applicants must schedule an appointment by emailing ConsularLaPazACS@state.gov. All applications require an in-person visit during business hours, and most emergency passports can be issued on the same day as the appointment.

The application process requires several documents: an unsigned Form DS-11 listing a Bolivian mailing address and telephone number (a hotel address is acceptable), and if the previous passport was lost or stolen, an unsigned Form DS-64 unless it has already been reported online. Applicants must also provide a U.S. passport-sized color photo with a white background; more information about photo requirements is available on the Department of State website.

Proof of identity through a valid government-issued ID—either foreign or U.S.—is required. If an applicant has previously provided such identification when applying for a passport, consular officers may be able to verify this electronically. Proof of U.S. citizenship is also necessary, but prior issuance of a U.S. passport may allow consular officers to find this record electronically as well.

Payment details can be found under “Payment Method and Details” on the embassy’s website.
