U.S. citizens in Bolivia who received an emergency passport can now apply for a full-validity replacement passport without an in-person appointment, according to the U.S. Embassy in La Paz. The process uses courier service and is available at no cost for eligible applicants.

To qualify, individuals must have obtained their recent U.S. passport book at the full fee, and it must have been limited to two years or less for reasons other than multiple losses or significant damage to previous passports. Additionally, the limited-validity passport must still be unexpired.

Applicants are required to submit Form DS-5504 with a Bolivian mailing address and telephone number, one U.S. passport-sized photo that meets Department of State requirements, and their most recently issued limited-validity, unexpired U.S. passport along with a photocopy.

The application packet should be sent via DHL courier service to the Consular Section – ACS at the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, located at Avenida Arce #2780. The embassy notes that incomplete or incorrectly filled out applications will delay processing and advises not to send packets directly to the United States.

To receive the new passport by courier, applicants need to generate a DHL airway bill either by scanning a provided QR code or visiting https://bit.ly/3xPmVrA. Delivery options include receiving the passport at a specified Bolivian address for Bs 120 or picking it up at a DHL office for Bs 85.
