The U.S. Embassy in Beirut has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) program for secondary school educators. The SUSI initiative is designed to provide foreign secondary educators and administrators with resources to enhance their teaching about the United States upon returning to their home countries.

The program will take place over five weeks during the summer of 2026 at various academic institutions across the United States. It features rigorous academic content aligned with America250, a national effort promoting American excellence and innovation, and includes a one-week integrated academic field experience.

According to the embassy, "The SUSIs will provide three multinational groups of 20 experienced secondary school educators (including secondary school teachers, administrators, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, Ministry of Education officials, and others) with a deeper understanding of U.S. society and institutions, U.S. history, and American excellence, informing and enhancing teaching about the United States."

Eligibility for participation is limited to Lebanese citizens or holders of Special Travel Documents for Palestinian Refugees issued by Lebanese authorities. U.S. citizens or green card holders are not eligible. Applicants should be mid-career professionals between ages 30-50 who are highly motivated and experienced in teaching students aged approximately 14-18 years old.

Candidates must be willing to participate fully in an intensive post-graduate level academic program and study tour in the United States and be comfortable living on campus during that time. Fluency in English is required.

Preference will be given to those who have not previously visited the United States. The ideal candidates are expected to incorporate aspects of U.S. studies into their curricula or develop new courses related to American topics after completing the program.

Relatives of employees at the U.S. embassy or Fulbright commission are not eligible for this opportunity.

Applications are open until Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11:59 PM Beirut Time. All major expenses—including roundtrip airfare, shared accommodation during the program, meals, and health insurance—are covered by the U.S. government as part of its sponsorship efforts for such educational exchanges.

"Competition is merit-based, and all candidates are encouraged to apply," according to information provided by U.S. Embassy Beirut.
