The Malaysian Plastic Circularity Series is a market assessment carried out between 2023 and 2024 to provide insights into Malaysia’s plastic recycling economy. The series examines the entire value chain, including feedstock collection, infrastructure, policies, and initiatives aimed at addressing challenges related to plastic waste. It also offers detailed analysis of the electrical and electronics, automotive, construction, and healthcare sectors.

The first report in the series outlines its objectives, approach, methodology, and provides context both globally and specifically for Malaysia. It also highlights opportunities to speed up plastic circularity in the country.

The second report focuses on evaluating Malaysia’s current plastic recycling sector. Its goal is to identify important insights and opportunities that could improve recyclability as well as circularity and feedstock availability.

A third report delivers a sector-specific assessment of the electrical and electronics industry, which is identified as Malaysia’s largest non-packaging and durable plastic user.

The fourth report addresses the automotive sector. This industry is noted as the second largest non-packaging and durable plastic user in Malaysia.

Plastic use and recycling within the construction sector are examined in a fifth report. The construction industry ranks as Malaysia’s fourth-largest consumer of plastics after packaging, electrical and electronics, and automotive sectors.

Finally, a sixth report looks at plastic use in healthcare. While this sector uses less plastic compared to others studied in the series, it is highlighted due to various global initiatives making it significant for further exploration.
