During a recent visit to the American Shelf in Pankisi, Chargé d’Affaires Alan Purcell awarded a certificate to a leading local reader and spoke with young participants learning English. He noted the importance of programs like the Summer Reading Challenge and the English Access Program, which aim to foster reading habits and English language skills among Georgian youth at American Spaces throughout the country.
The U.S. supports education, community engagement, and cultural initiatives in Pankisi and across 19 American Spaces located throughout Georgia. The American Shelf in Pankisi was established in 2023 through a partnership with the Roddy Scott Foundation. Since its opening, it has become an active center for learning, providing greater access to English-language materials and helping strengthen connections between the United States and the Pankisi community.
"At American Spaces around the country, we encourage Georgian youth to read through our Summer Reading Challenge, learn English through our English Access Program, and connect with each other through other cultural programs," said CDA Purcell.
