The United States government has donated essential medical supplies worth about BWP 398,390 (USD $30,000) to Botswana's Ministry of Health. The handover took place on December 5, with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Christopher Gunning presenting the supplies to officials in Gaborone.
This delivery is part of a broader U.S. commitment, which includes approximately BWP 14 million in medical and laboratory equipment for Botswana. The support aims to address the ongoing shortage of essential medicines affecting healthcare facilities and workers throughout the country.
“We recognize that the current shortage of essential medicines places significant stress on health facilities, health workers, and communities across the country,” said Chargé d ’Affaires Gunning.
“Botswana asked, and the United States delivered! The United States will stand with the people of Botswana during this challenging time because that’s what friends do.”
The new supplies are intended to strengthen Botswana’s emergency response capabilities and ease some of the immediate pressures facing its health sector. According to embassy officials, this initiative reflects a long-term partnership between the two countries focused on advancing public health, strengthening cooperation, and supporting mutual prosperity.
