The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) marked the 85th anniversary of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) with an event on December 8, 2025. AIT Director Raymond Greene addressed IVLP alumni and guests, highlighting the program’s role in fostering international cooperation.
“The IVLP has been the State Department’s premier exchange program, bringing emerging leaders to the United States to deepen dialogue, understanding, and cooperation. Over the decades, it has become a powerful platform to showcase American innovation and to build lasting partnerships with leaders around the world,” Greene said.
Greene shared his personal experience with IVLP during his first assignment in Taiwan in 2002. He noted that he nominated individuals who later made significant contributions and emphasized how Taiwan’s IVLP alumni have helped strengthen ties between Taiwan and the United States.
He stated, “Globally, the IVLP has brought together more than 230,000 leaders from over 190 countries, including 1,300 alumni from Taiwan. These connections have built professional networks, fostered collaboration, and reinforced the long-standing friendship between the United States and Taiwan.”
During his remarks, Greene also announced the launch of AIT’s America250 campaign. The eight-month initiative will commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence. Events will include an interactive exhibition, various programs across Taiwan, and a large lantern display at the Taipei Lantern Festival.
“America250 is more than a milestone; it is an invitation to reflect on our history and to inspire innovation and partnership for the next generation,” Greene said.
He concluded by recognizing IVLP alumni for their ongoing efforts: “As we mark 85 years of the IVLP, we honor not only its history but the lasting partnerships it continues to spark. Taiwan’s alumni embody that legacy—turning dialogue into collaboration and shared experiences into enduring cooperation between our peoples.”
