The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) has announced a series of events and exhibitions across Taiwan to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, known as America250. The announcement was made during the International Visitor Leadership Program’s 85th anniversary reception on December 8, 2025.

According to AIT Public Affairs Officer Arend Zwartjes, “We’re excited that AIT’s A250 initiative will highlight the enduring values that continue to shape the United States, including freedom, innovation, and partnership.” He added, “The A250 Traveling Exhibition is currently on display at the AIT American Center and the New Taipei American Shelf and will continue touring American Spaces across Taiwan in the coming months.”

The traveling exhibitions are set to visit various locations throughout Taiwan so that communities island-wide can participate in celebrating this milestone. The exhibits will feature photos, quizzes, historical reproductions, interactive displays, cultural programming, and thematic content focused on American sports, literature, pop culture, music, and arts. Additional interactive elements such as book club programming, panel discussions, and games are also planned.

In addition to these exhibitions in American Spaces facilities around Taiwan—including stops at New Taipei American Shelf (December 2025), AIT American Center (December 2025 – January 2026), Taipei American Corner (March – April 2026), Taichung American Corner (April – May 2026), and Taipei American Innovation Center (May – July 2026)—AIT will organize an interactive exhibition at other venues. There will also be monthly #A250 social media themes and a large lantern installation at the Taipei Lantern Festival.

These activities aim to share the America250 message with audiences throughout Taiwan while emphasizing shared values and ongoing collaboration between the United States and Taiwan.

America250 is a national initiative led from Washington D.C., established to commemorate two-and-a-half centuries since U.S. independence. The lead-up period provides an opportunity for reflection on U.S. history as well as recognition of contributions from all communities.
