On December 6, the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg and Luxor Governor Abdel-Motaleb Emara opened a new American Corner at the Misr Public Library in Luxor. This initiative, supported by an investment of over $200,000 from the U.S. government, is designed to enhance learning opportunities, promote innovation, and foster cultural exchange in Luxor and nearby regions.
The launch of the American Corner in Luxor is part of America250, a celebration marking 250 years since the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. The event also highlights over a century of diplomatic relations between Egypt and the United States.
“We are proud to partner with the Luxor Governorate and Misr Public Library to create this dynamic hub offering English-language activities, workforce development workshops, youth programs, and cultural events to the people of Upper Egypt,” said U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg. “This partnership with the Luxor Governorate and Misr Public Library is a perfect example of how the United States benefits and positively impacts the lives of Egyptian people every day.”
The facility includes updated technology, digital resources, American books and multimedia materials. Its flexible design supports collaboration as well as individual study and community programs that combine American themes with local culture.
This location becomes Egypt’s fourth American Space—joining similar centers in Cairo, Alexandria, and Maadi—and is part of a global network promoting English language education and cross-cultural engagement.
The opening featured an exhibition by Chicago House on a century of U.S.-supported archaeological work in Egypt. In addition to launching the new center, activities for America250 included a “Pop-Up USA” fair and concert near Luxor Temple.
