Kosovo has announced the removal of customs tariffs on products from the United States, a move celebrated at an event organized by AmCham Kosovo. Anu Prattipati, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, addressed participants and expressed appreciation to AmCham Kosovo Executive Director Arian Zeka, Minister Murati, Director Llugaliu, and representatives of Kosovo Customs for their roles in this development.
During her remarks, Prattipati stated: "Today, we celebrate Kosovo’s decision to eliminate customs tariffs on U.S. products. A decision that reflects a shared vision for greater trade, investment, and prosperity between our two nations."
She described the policy change as more than administrative: "This is more than just a policy change; it is a statement of Kosovo’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the United States and creating new opportunities for businesses and consumers alike."
Prattipati highlighted that removing tariffs will increase access to American goods in Kosovo while opening further possibilities for businesses in both countries. She noted: "By removing customs tariffs, Kosovo has increased access to high-quality American goods, making them more available in Kosovo and increasing opportunities for U.S. and Kosovan businesses and consumers alike."
Calling the decision beneficial for both nations’ economies, she said: "This decision is a win-win for both our nations by strengthening our bilateral trade and creating new opportunities for economic growth." She encouraged local companies to utilize the waiver: "I encourage Kosovan businesses to take full advantage of the customs duty waiver and expand their partnerships with U.S. companies."
Prattipati cited existing American brands present in Kosovo such as Marriott, Sheraton, Deloitte, Coca Cola, KFC, Burger King among others as evidence of strong economic ties. She anticipated further business cooperation following tariff elimination.
"We see significant opportunities to increase American petroleum products, heavy industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, and other products in Kosovo," Prattipati said. "We stand ready to assist Kosovan businesses be better connected with U.S. counterparts in these and other sectors."
The embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and prosperity: "At the U.S. Embassy, we are committed to supporting initiatives that make both our countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous." Prattipati added that increasing U.S. exports aligns with embassy priorities.
In closing remarks she thanked AmCham Kosovo for promoting stronger bilateral relations: "In closing, I want to thank AmCham Kosovo for its advocacy and leadership in support of greater ties between the United States and Kosovo." She called on continued efforts toward expanding trade links.
