On December 5, the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), in coordination with the U.S. Embassy Port of Spain, provided educational equipment and supplies worth $25,000 to Roxborough Anglican Primary School in Tobago. The contribution is part of SOUTHCOM’s Humanitarian Assistance Program aimed at supporting learning environments and promoting digital literacy.
The donation consisted of 10 desktop computers, desks, chairs, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), a printer, whiteboards, a refrigerator, microwave, stationery, and other supplies. These resources are intended to enhance opportunities for students at the school.
U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Jenifer Neidhart de Ortiz handed over the items to Principal Verlene John during a ceremony at the school on Union Street in Roxborough. Attendees included Dale Hercules representing the Member of Parliament for Tobago East; school manager Fr. Shaquille Charles; Vice President of the Parent-Teachers’ Association Michelle Duke; as well as teachers and students.
During her remarks at the event, Dr. Neidhart de Ortiz stated: “This donation reinforces the strong partnership between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. It reflects our enduring commitment to strengthening our partnership and investing in the future of Trinidad and Tobago’s youth. Education is the foundation for opportunity and prosperity, and we are proud to stand with you to work to empower the next generation.”
Principal John expressed appreciation for the donation from the United States and indicated that all classes will benefit from using the new computers.
