U.S. artificial intelligence company Atomic Canyon and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have entered into a new partnership to advance the use of AI in nuclear energy. The agreement was signed on December 3 at the Vienna International Center by Trey Lauderdale, Founder and CEO of Atomic Canyon, and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA.

The collaboration will allow Atomic Canyon to use IAEA data to improve its AI models and develop solutions for managing international nuclear energy information. The signing took place during the IAEA’s International Symposium on AI and Nuclear Energy, which included participants from the IAEA, U.S. Departments of State and Energy, academia, and private industry.

According to the press release, “The Atomic Canyon-IAEA partnership aims to improve accessibility to the Agency’s unclassified information, including publications – and to disseminate AI-powered solutions trained on IAEA information and data sets.” The agreement is also expected to help speed up deployment of advanced U.S. nuclear technology for national security purposes as directed by President Trump in Executive Order 14299 issued on May 23.

U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactors Rian Bahran and State Department Senior Advisor for Nuclear Competitiveness Christopher Klein attended the event.
